REHOMING YOUR DOG OR CAT

Owning pets can be extremely rewarding, however it comes with much responsibility.

Life rarely goes according to plan & some owners find themselves in a position where they feel they need to give up a pet. This could be for numerous reasons, however sometimes we need to make tough decisions which can be difficult at the time but turn out for the best in the long run. If you are thinking of giving up your dog or cat for adoption, then please call us on 07970 642704 or contact us. We are here to help.

No one sets out getting a pet thinking they will have to give it up and we understand how difficult this could be. We are only interested in doing what’s right for your dog or cat, so there’s no need to feel awkward or embarrassed.

Sometimes giving up a pet is the right thing to do, but it can be distressing for you and them, so must be done carefully.

We will arrange an appointment to meet you and your dog or cat, for an initially assessment so that we can assign the right foster home for them. This normally happens within a few days but could be as soon as the next day. No dog or cat will be put in any kind of kennel, all pets looking to be rehomed will be placed in the right home environment for them.

At the appointment please bring your pet, together with any veterinary records you have, including vaccination certificates and microchip details, if appropriate. If they have a favourite toy or blanket, please bring that too so they can feel right at home. This is a pre-intake assessment and usually we wouldn’t take your pet at this point, though that could be an option.

If we don’t have a space free immediately, then we will ask you to wait until one becomes available. We’ll try our very best to help you and your dog or cat but this may take a few weeks and we thank you for being patient with us.   Our care is second-to-none so we promise it’ll be worth the wait.

Unfriendly or aggressive dogs.

If you know your dog or cat is a little unfriendly or aggressive towards other dogs please be honest with us, we will find them a foster home, but it has to be the right one. We will do everything we can to make sure your dog or cat is happy in their new environment.

Don’t think twice about coming to see us.

Please don’t tie your dog or cat to a gate or leave it outside. It can be dangerous and distressing for your pet. It’s far better if you come in and speak to us. Plus, if we can speak to you about your dog or cat’s likes and dislikes, that helps us find them a great new owner even faster. The more we can understand about your dog or cat, the sooner we can help them be adopted into a loving home.

Giving up your dog or cat is free.

Giving up your dog or cat for adoption is free. It won’t cost you a penny.

However, if you would like to make a donation, no matter how large or small, you’re very welcome to but the most important thing is that anyone, whatever their income or personal situation, knows that we are ready to welcome them.
